OVERVIEW OF ENGLISH EDUCATION IN SDUHSD
SDUHSD offers a wide range of English Language Arts courses to students in grades 7-12. Students may take as many VPA classes as their schedule will allow, and prerequisites and department recommendations should be followed.
Middle School
All students in grades 7 & 8 must take a grade level English course each year and may take additional electives or support classes.
High School
All students in grades 9-12 must take a grade level English course each year as a requirement to earn a high school diploma from SDUHSD. To apply to most four-year colleges, students must earn a C grade or higher in a minimum of one year of grade level English each year in high school.
Additional English electives or support classes count toward fulfilling the elective credits graduation requirement. All students in grades 9-12 may take elective courses offered by their school and should work directly with the school counselor.
